Winter News

Hello Knitsters!
Happy Winter Solstice! Not a lot of time left to knit a gift...but there is enough time to knit a pair of felted slippers. I am all about the felted slippers this year. I have been using different patterns for different people...but this week I am loving the classic Felt Ballet Slippers by Fiber Trends. We have a number of these patterns in the shop, but I'll let you in on a little secret: you can also instant download some Fiber Trends Patterns from their website : www.fibertrends.com

What follows below is a selection of new arrivals that we think are quite special. Any one of them would make a lovely gift for the knitter in your life - or yourself! Maybe just print off this newsletter and leave it in a conspicuous place?

As we wind down our year and prepare for our end of year inventory we will clear out all of our "Holds" and put them back on the sales floor. We will do this on December 24th. So, to be clear, ALL HOLDS WILL BE RELEASED ON DECEMBER 24 - NO EXCEPTIONS! Check your inbox on the 26th for a reminder about our boxing week sale, which will begin December 27th.

On to our holiday hours:

Regular Wednesday Stitch n' Bitch on the 23rd and 30th

December 24: 11-3
December 25: closed
December 26: closed
December 31: 11-3
January 1: closed

Other than that, it is regular hours.

Keep Knitting,
Megan

Hello Knitsters!
Ah February. It's a month to be good to yourself. Buy some yummy yarn that you have a crush on...treat yourself to a new knitting accessory or two...you can see where I'm going with this.

February is also a great time to make fabulous plans for the warmer months. This coming June I have been invited to teach at Squam Art Workshops, a five day Textile Arts Retreat on the shore of Squam Lake in Holderness, New Hampshire. Why don't you join me there? The retreat which runs June 3-7, features classes by esteemed knitting teachers Beth Brown-Reinsel, Sally Melville, Annie Modesitt, and more!

There are also sewing classes, felting classes, fabric printing, even watercolour painting! It promises to be a creative and soul enriching time with like minded folks in a beautiful natural environment. There is even going to be a Ravelry event on one of the nights. I am so excited to be going! Do take some time to click around the SAW website and maybe you will be inspired to come too!

In the meantime, read on about all the shiny pretty things we have in the shop now to keep those February blahs away!

* Big Boxes of Rowan Yarn

* Classes Schedule

Cat Bordhi Workshops at Lettuce Knit
Cat Bordhi is visiting us! Learn from one of the most revered and innovative Knit designers and teachers. Hold on to your hats! Here is what we have planned:

New Pathways and Beyond!
Tuesday May 19: 10-4

This full day workshop includes a catered lunch and refreshments. Cost is $100.

Based on the innovative sock architectures found in Cat's most recent book: New Pathways for Sock Knitters, this workshop will take you to a much deeper and more elemental understanding of how the architectures work.

This class will be intriguing for those who have knit conventional sock patterns as well as those who are familiar with the socks in New Pathways. After this workshop, you will go away much less dependent on the book and much more empowered to design and hybridize architectures and be a free-thinking knitter of sock shapes.

Interactive Sock Talk for Breast Cancer Research.
Wednesday May 20: 6-8pm
Cost is $20.

Cat promises her Interactive Sock Talk is both fun and enlightening! All profits from this event will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research of Dr. David Krag. A cause that Cat is very passionate about.

After the sock talk we will enjoy our weekly Stitch N' Bitch with Cat. Bring or buy any of her books if you would like them signed!

Moebii Forever
Thursday May 21: 10-4

This full day workshop includes a catered lunch and refreshments. Cost is $100.

Learn from the Master! Even if you have knit a Moebius before, wouldn't it be an awesome experience to learn how Cat explains and demonstrates it? I know I'm curious!

In this workshop you will learn the Moebius Cast On, and then Cat will get get you flying along the Moebius highway.

As the workshop goes on, Cat promises to explode your mind with all the possibilities of pushing the shape into garments, felted containers, art objects, and more! In her experience, everyone leaves this workshop exhilarated and prepared to knit all manner of Moebii forevermore.

New Design: Lettuce Knit Knit bags in 2 sizes
We are super psyched to have a newly designed tote bag for our eco-conscious knitters! We had this new design printed on 8x 10 drawstring muslin bags - perfect for a small project, or a nice way to present yarn as a gift- they are $5 each. And then we also had 100 large heavy cotton tote bags printed. The best part? They have a zipper! These are $10. Limited Edition! Please get in touch if you would like to work with us on the next limited edition tote bag design.

Big Boxes of Rowan Yarn
We have received quite a few boxes from Rowan as of late. Okay, that may be an understatement. Read on to learn more about the yarns that arrived.

Summer Tweed (shown here): Combining the luxury of silk (70%) with the durability of cotton (30%), this is a perfect all year round yarn. The nebs of tonal colours in Summer Tweed create a wonderful textural look in the knitted fabric making this a unique knit for both look and feel. I want to knit Ysolda Teague's Liesl with it. It would only use 5 skeins for a 38" size!
Suggested needle size : 5 mm, 16 sts and 23 rows over 4 inches, 118 yds in 50 grams. $12 each.

Purelife Organic Cotton 4-ply is a new Rowan yarn for Spring 2009. This organically grown naturally dyed yarn is coloured with plant dyes and due to their organic nature, some shade variation will simply add to the yarn's unique organic beauty. I want to knit Jordana Paige's Isabella with it.
Suggested needle size : 3.25 mm, 28 sts and 36 rows over 4 inches, 180 yards in 50 grams. $11 each.

We also received some Rowan yarns at blow out prices, which we are passing along to you. Cotton Braid and Holiday are both summery yarns at only $4 each (regular price $10.50 and $9), and Country and Little Big Wool are both warm and wooly at only $6 each (regular price both $10). We have lots and lots of these sale yarns (especially the wool ones) so call if you need a cheap and good yarn fix.
