Hello Fibre Friends!
We've been having a lot of fun this month! Many of us have been participating in NaKniSweMo (National Knit a Sweater in a Month), we've been receiving lots of yummy yarns at the shop, and we're planning for the festivities of December!

Effective immediately, all of our in stock Schacht Spinning Wheels are 20% off! This sale will last until the end of the year! We have the Matchless, Ladybug, and Sidekick (shown here). Maybe you have a Schacht Wheel on your Wish List? If so, be sure to tell Santa about our sale!

Did you know that you can rent out our spinning wheels for $15 a week? We also have an Ashford Knitters Loom, Schacht Cricket Loom, and Louet Junior Drum Carder that can each be rented out for $10 a week. Give us a call at the shop for availability.

Save the date! Our annual Holiday/Anniversary party will be held on Wednesday December 7th, from 6-10pm. This year we will be celebrating 8 years of Lettuce Knit! Hope to see all of you there - it's always a memorable time!

Keep Knitting (little puffy hexagons for me please),
Megan

Hello Fibre Friends!
It's a HIVE of activity at Lettuce Knit, now that the weather has turned every so slightly in Toronto. Fall is upon us, and we're loving it!

This month we have become obsessed with the Beekeepers Quilt (shown here) by Tiny Owl Knits. I would love to have a BIG shop sample of the Beekeepers Quilt that we could all enjoy on the couch.

To that end, I have cooked up a plan! First, visit Stephanie's pattern store and download the Beekeepers Quilt pattern. Next, start hexipuffing! I know that sounds bad, but trust me...it's good! Then, bring in a hexipuff, or two, or three, or a hundred, to Lettuce Knit.

On November 2nd, during Stitch N' Bitch, we will draw one hexipuff, and the knitter of that little puff will win a gift certificate for Lettuce Knit for $100!

In addition, Stephanie is such a sweetie, that she has offered the winner a free Tiny Owl Knits pattern download of their choice!

Keep Knitting (little puffy hexagons for me please),
Megan

New from Berroco this season is Voyage, shown above. If you liked the soft and sparkly Flicker from Berroco, you'll love this yarn! Hello Fibre Friends!
This month join us at Lettuce Knit for a night of community as we knit 8" squares for the Knit-a-Square program. Our squares will be shipped to South Africa and made into blankets for orphaned children whose lives have been greatly compromised by HIV/AIDS and poverty.

Hello Fibre Friends!
Happy Summer!

I haven't been knitting much...but I have been crocheting! I don't know what it is about summer, but it seems that as soon as the strawberries are ripe I tend to lay down my needles, and pick up my hook!

I've been working mostly on crocheted dishcloths! I love this free pattern from Lion Brand Yarn, called the Sylvan Star Washcloth. You can get the pattern here, but you need to set up a free account first.

And look what I came up with! I threaded the washcloth with a cute ribbon and tied it on top of homemade strawberry jam. This is my go to gift this summer for teachers, parties, or anything. I am very pleased with myself.

So far, I am getting about 6 washcloths out of one skein of the Araucania Ulmo cotton which is reviewed below.

Have a lovely Summer Everyone, and Keep Knitting (or Crocheting),

Keep Knitting,
Megan

We know how much you love Noro, so we have lots and lots stacked up on our shelves! Classic Silk Garden ($12) and Kureyon ($9) are back - check out this great sweater from the new Interweave Knits Weekend Magazine. It features Kureyon in a flattering side-to-side cardigan that makes great use of Noro's stripes.

We're also crazy for a new yarn from Noro, Hitsuji - this 100% wool bulky single comes in nice big 100g balls with Noro's trademark ombre colourways for $18. It would be perfect for chunky accessories, blankets and sweaters! It's never too early to start thinking about Holiday gifts, wink, wink.

Taiyo is one of the great new blends from Noro, blending the gorgeous colours we expect with a softer cotton-wool blend. Well, now comes Taiyo Sock! This lighter weight sock yarn is 50% cotton, 17% wool, 17% nylon and 16% silk. Great for summer socks, or for accessories with that signature Noro stripe. $19.

It almost feels like a soft worn sweatshirt! Bulky yet light, each skein has 160m and works up on a 6 or 6.5mm needle. $20.

Contains patterns for sweaters, vests, coats and accessories for adults and kids. An instant classic. $36.

Araucania Ulmo and Ulmo Multi
Spring and summer knitting is nearly upon us, and this DK weight cotton fits the bill perfectly. It can sometimes be tricky to find cottons in nice multi-colours, but Araucania has done it! This soft cotton comes in gorgeous colour and has generous yardage - 202 yds per 100g skein, great for summery garments and accessories. Just $14 per skein!

It's Spring...yet it is snowing today in Toronto...nevermind, this is what is Fresh and New at Lettuce Knit this March...

We are planning our participation at the opening weekend of the Fibre Arts Festival at the Neilson Park Creative Centre. This event is presented by the Etobicoke Handweavers & Spinners Guild, Heritage Rugcrafters of Etobicoke, and the Etobicoke Quilters' Guild.

The opening weekend, Saturday April 2 (10am-5pm) and Sunday April 3 (10am-4pm), we will be selling our wares in the Merchant Mall, where you will be able to find hard-to-find supplies for quilting, spinning, rughooking, weaving, and knitting.

Sounds like heaven to me!

Other points of interest include free parking, door prizes, and tea room. Admission is $5.

For more information visit their website.

Cal Patch is coming to Lettuce Knit! I met Cal last June when we were both teaching at Squam Art Workshops. But I've been a fan of hers since her book "Design it Yourself Clothes" came out. You have to visit her blog, Hodge Podge Farm to get the gist of just how awesome she is, and all that she has going on! Cal teaches sewing, crochet, embroidery and more - and on April 29 from 6-8pm she will be teaching Embroidery for Knit and Crochet at Lettuce Knit! See photo above to get an idea of what you will learn. Call the shop to register - spaces are limited, so act fast...details below.

Embroidery for Knit and Crochet with Cal Patch

Friday, April 29, 6-8pm

Cost: $50 includes refreshments

Call Lettuce Knit to register with your credit card info: 416-203-9970

It's easy to embellish and personalize your knit and crochet projects with a touch of embroidery. Cal will show you ten stitches you can use to add some flair to anything you make. Bring a tapestry needle, some scrap yarn, and a piece of thick knit fabric to use as your sampler.
