LEARN CONTINENTAL KNITTING

Want to learn to knit faster? Continental knitting is the way to go! This method involves holding the yarn in your left hand and "picking"  the yarn instead of "throwing" it. Make a scarf or something more ambitious, if you're up to the challenge or have something specific in mind. Some knowledge of knitting and purling is strongly encouraged but not essential.

CHUNKY MITTENS

One of our favourite classes!  you won't believe how fast these mittens knit up!  You will walk out of the second class with your mittens all done! It's a great class to learn how to use double pointed needles, how to increase, decrease, and work in the round.  

FAIR ISLE HAT

Time to tackle stranded knitting! Learn the basics of two-colour stranded knitting ("fair isle") with a sampler hat knit in the round. Two-handed and one- handed techniques will be covered, as well as weaving vs. floats and following a colourwork chart. See fabulous patterns emerge before your eyes! Skills required: cast on, knit, purl, cast off. Previous colourwork experience not needed, but knitting in the round is an asset!

The Owls Sweater by designer Kate Davies is one of the most popular Internet projects out there, and it's a great first sweater project for knitters looking to move beyond the scarf.  This class will guide you through the pattern, and make sure you have all the skills to complete it -- working in the round, short rows and cabling.  The original pattern is free on through www.ravelry.com; please bring a print out of the pattern to the first class. We will provide additional pattern notes for the cardigan option. Also, please have your yarn and needles ready for the first class, so we can start knitting right away!. (students should bring or buy 6mm and 6.5mm 32"- 40" circular needles, Set of 4 6mm and 6.5mm dpns, or long circular needle to work sleeves and 550-850 metres chunky weight yarn)

Are you ready for a challenge?  Are you looking  to learn a new skill?  Lace is the most beautiful work a knitter can produce.  Start your lace knitting adventures with a triangular shawl in a traditional Shetland lace pattern,  The first session will teach you the basics of lace knitting, and get you cast on for your first shawl.  The second session will focus on expanding your skills as you work the shawl project.  Skills required:  Knit, purl, increasing and decreasing.  Supplies to bring to the first class:  scrap yarn in a worsted or aran weight and a pair of 4.5mm or 5mm needles.

This class will teach you how to read and work the pattern - and show you how to make customizations, like converting them to knee socks, and working a Valentine version.  If you've never worked a patterned sock before, this is a great way to start!  Suitable for knitters with experience working in the round, but you needn't have tried socks.

Tired of the drop spindle and itching for something new? Or just want to dive right into spinning on a wheel? Spinning wheel basics will cover all you need to know to get going with a wheel. Space is limited, so sign up early! Some spinning experience is recommended, but not necessary.

EXPERT TIPS

Confused about cast-ons? Baffled by bind offs?  Unsure about increasing and decreasing? This 2-hour session will provide an variety of techniques for each, discussing which technique is best for which situation. Using the right technique can make your knitting easier, and make the finish product look better! Suitable for knitters of all levels. Techniques will include: long tail cast-on, provisional cast-on, Judy's Magic cast-on; Russian Lace bind-offs, the sewn bind- off, the new Jeny's Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-Off; invisible, visible and directional increases and decreases.  We'll answer all those tricky questions like what M1 is, and what it means to bind off in pattern.  

BEGINNER WEAVING ON THE FLOOR LOOM
